Mission: The Waawiiyaataanong Arts Council is a collective of artists, activists, cultural workers, and community organizers dedicated to advancing collective liberation through transformative cultural and artistic practices. Centering the voices of Indigenous people, and the needs of people of color, we strive to restore balance to all land and life by fostering principles of reciprocity, accountability, and kinship.

Our vision is to collaborate with cultural institutions, to reimagine and enact practices of Land Acknowledgment that transcend symbolic gestures. Through art, education, and community-driven initiatives, we emphasize meaningful action, transparency, and long-term relationship building. By amplifying the power of artists and their work, we seek to redistribute institutional power, privilege, resources, and eventually land, in what is currently called Detroit. Together, we strive to create a just, equitable, and interconnected future for all.
